PNG representative and Tribes Coffee women’s team captain, Jonitha Warabe’s exceptional performance steered her side to a convincing 69-54 victory over the CivPac Amesii in the 2024 inaugural Port Moresby Elite Basketball (PEB) competition Women’s Grand Final on Sunday, November 24th, 2024, at Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Center.
Skipper Warabe was efficient on the court, scoring 19 points, collecting 4 rebounds, and making 3 assists, and walked away with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Her leadership and experience guided the Tribes Coffee to a resounding triumph to become the pioneer ‘Queens’ of the inaugural 2024 PEB season.
The Tribes Coffee didn’t just win the crucial game, but they dominated all four quarters and blew the Amesii outfit off the court. Amesii had the services of experienced campaigners in the likes of Betty Angula, Betty Wong, Marca Muri, Lydia Gotuno, and Tina Dobunaba, but the determined girls in green led by Warabe came on a mission and stamped their authority.
Amesii shattered Tribes two weeks ago in the semi-final and snatched the Minor Premiership trophy. Having a score to settle with their rivals, the Tribes Coffee-sponsored girls regrouped and produced a dominant performance in the big dance, mending their broken hearts and celebrating in style. It was a sweet redemption to cap off their season on a high note.
Veteran Warabe was grateful for being recognized as the MVP and thanked her teammates for making her shine during the decider to steal the spotlight. She also extended the team’s appreciation to the sponsor Firman Joseph, coaching staff, management, and passionate supporters for sticking with the Tribes Coffee team through thick and thin this season.
Under the strong leadership of captain Jonitha Warabe, complemented by Anna Moses, Elina Yala, Cynthia Baia, Margret Kevin, Emily Lialu, Delta Lare, Natasha Andrew, Joan Kola, Prudence Ipape, and Eshlyn Jack, the Tribes Coffee women’s team look forward to defending their title next season.
