The U20 UniTech Reds boys of Lae City have put their feet down on the opening day of the Gerehu Firelight 7s tournament today (December 13) at the Sir John Guise Stadium, registering three straight wins and putting the Port Moresby-based teams on notice.
The team is made up of the University of Technology (UniTech) staff’s children, including the children from the nearby communities in East Taraka, Labi Police Barracks, and Tenth City.
Representing the industrial city, the ‘Rainy Lae’ kids traveled to the nation’s capital not to make up the numbers, but they are here to steal the show, as reflected by their dominant performances.
Despite stamping their authority in the opener of the Firelight 7s third leg, coach John Milba reminded the boys not to get ahead of themselves, as they still have unfinished business to complete.
“We are just using the approach of taking one game at a time. Because of the simple approach that we are using, the boys have performed well and remained undefeated in their pool,” Milba said.
“We are confident but not underestimating other teams. We will play our simple game and stick to our process. We’ve completed our last game this afternoon and look forward to the finals on Sunday.”
The U20 UniTech Reds have a couple of experienced players at their disposal, who have what it takes to give other teams a run for their money and stake their claim for the coveted title.
