The Maikuna Team's senior boxers and Team PNG boxers, fighting under Coach Ephraim Montoru, Jamie Chang, and Lucas Kembu Wakore, impressed the crowd with their debut wins yesterday at the Hideaway Hotel in the first Oceania Fight Promotions fight night.
Both boxers experienced their first professional fights in their respective weight divisions (Jamie Chang -54Kg and Lucas Wakore - 80-85Kg). However, it was not their first time in the ring, as they have represented Team PNG in various amateur boxing events both nationally and internationally.
Chang, from Manus Province, faced off against Kopi Mahutu, who fought under The Venom Boxing Club from Central Province. Chang and Mahutu engaged in a brutal yet entertaining fight, exchanging blows despite both sustaining cuts and blood dripping down their faces.
Although Chang's opponent was a seasoned pro boxer, Chang put up a strong fight, earning cheers from the crowd in his professional debut.
Lucas Kembu Wakore took on senior pro boxer John Decklam in the heavyweight division of 80-85 Kg. Wakore, from West New Britain, faced Decklam from East New Britain in
a challenging match as Wakore aimed to prove himself in the professional ring against a more experienced opponent.
Of the four TMT boxers who fought, three secured wins in their professional debuts, including Chang, Wakore, and Teejay David. Liam Kevin also won his fight, while David was the only one to lose his match.
