Papua New Guinea’s powerlifting team at the XVII Pacific Games in Honiara has raked in nine medals at the end of the second day of their competition on Tuesday this week.
Team Manager and Coach for the PNG Powerlifting Team, Kevin Kombra said that this Pacific Games is the toughest yet.
“Our performance was alright but not really to our expectations, and that’s because we had some tough challenges from Nauru, Tahiti and Tonga. They were too strong, but at least our girls and boys put on a fight there,” said Kombra.
So far they have contributed four silver, three bronze and two gold medals to Team PNG’s tally.
“Tomorrow (Wednesday, November 29) we are looking at the heavy weights. It will be the same, we are looking at a very tough challenge but that is not an excuse, we represent our people back home so we will be fighting hard for them.
“As the coach, I'm proud of the outcome so far,” said Kombra.
He remains optimistic that there will be more medals for Team PNG in powerlifting on the third and final day of their competition on Wednesday (November 29).
