The formidable Seagulls worked extra hard to beat the Wanderers with 1-0 score in a highly competitive Men’s Pool B hockey match on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the Sir John Guise Hockey Pavilion in Port Moresby.
The boys in black proved to be stronger in the challenge, although the Wanderers gave them a competitive run in this round 2 match of the Port Moresby Hockey Association (PMHA) competition.
The second-place team displayed a solid 4-2-4 lineup that was instrumental in their attack and defence to secure the well-deserved win, maintaining their winning streak with 4 wins and 5 draws.
Team captain and attacking midfielder Isaac Domin commented on their performance following the victory, stating: "The team's performance was great. The boys played well."
According to captain Domin, the match was tough, but the boys stepped up to the plate, even though many of them were new players.
He was also grateful to the experienced players who supported the team in their pursuit of success, including Raghly Tommy, Francis Kose (goal scorer), James Taniyova, and James Moke.
Domin mentioned areas they needed to improve on during training sessions in the coming week.
"Mistraps, inaccurate passes, and player positions are some areas we will work on bit by bit during training," said Domin.
Back defence Reghly Tommy also noted goal scoring as one of the crucial areas they needed to improve on.
"Goal scoring is a big task to play, and the forwards need to deliver rather than the backs doing their jobs and the forwards do not finish well,” he pointed out.
"I thanked all the boys for the communication on the turf. However, we still need to work on improving our basics.”
The black army are second below United on the ladder as of this week, pushing their way forward to secure the top spot.
Meanwhile, the Port Moresby Hockey Association is in round 2, game 3 of the season, with more games to be played this weekend at the iconic SJG Hockey Pavilion.
