Raphael Stars in PS Rutz Championship Feat

An emerging football star, Derrick Raphael has played a significant role in the PS Rutz championship triumph over Mungkas FC in the 2024 Port Moresby Soccer Association Men’s Premier Division Grand Final that was hosted on Sunday, October 20th, at Sir John Guise Stadium.

The young midfielder had a blinder in the middle of the pitch, controlling the flow of the traffic and making accurate passes. His outstanding performance earned him the player of the match and he also claimed his first championship with the PS Rutz.

Raphael played for the PS Rutz in the U19 division and made his way up the rank to the premier division in 2022. He has been one of the very important players for the PS Rutz this season, having played an instrumental role in turning the fortunes of the club around after twelve months.

It was a double blessing for the 19-year-old after capping off his 2024 PMSA season with a championship trophy, and now he looks forward to sitting for the grade 8 National Examination, which started on Monday and will end this Friday.

“I didn’t expect to win this grand final, but I’m glad that my hard work and sacrifice has paid off. Winning this grand final is a blessing and bonus for me, and I look forward to giving my best in the national examination this week,” Raphael said.

Young Raphael hopes to pass his exam and continue high school next year, while setting his sights to have a crack in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) next season.
