The Papua New Guinea Volleyball Federation (PNGVF) has implemented a strategy of utilizing the school holidays to gather young players for trial matches and training for indoor and beach volleyball elite development.
According to the PNGVF General Secretary, Ronald Omoa, this will serve as an identification process and began on Monday, April 8, 2024, for beach volleyball, and continued on Tuesday, April 9th, at the Sir John Guise Beach Volleyball Courts.
Ronald Omoa, stated that many talented kids are currently attending school, so the program was scheduled during school breaks.
"Most of the kids are students, so they don't have enough time to come and train in the afternoon. That's why we are taking advantage of the school holidays to get them involved," said PNGVF General Secretary Ronald Omoa.
"This program is designed for 15-19 year-olds. From this School Holiday Program, we will register their names and then move forward with training every Saturday under our Academy Program," said Omoa.
This program is part of the development initiative that has already shown success, with Amoa achieving a historic breakthrough by winning silver medal at the 2023 Pacific Games.
The program for Indoor Volleyball is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, April 10 and 11, at Taurama Aquatic Center.
Mr. Omoa mentioned that they started the program here in Port Moresby and will soon roll-out to other provinces: Lae, Alotau, Goroka, Hagen, Jiwaka, to name a few.
