PNG on 5th place on the Medal Tally



Team PNG is currently on the fifth place trailing behind New Caledonia, Australia, Solomon Islands, and Marshall Islands respectively on the medal tally, after having won four gold medals, four silvers, and seven bronzes, totaling fifteen medals on the second day of the Pacific Games in Solomon Islands on Tuesday, November 21st.


The four golds and the total of thirteen medals all came from the weightlifting team after their first day (Monday, November 20th) of the competition at the Maranatha Hall.


PNG's weightlifting queen, Dika Toua, won three gold medals in the Women's 49Kg, while her sisters Thelma and Konio won two silvers and four bronzes. Dorothy Bede Igo bagged a silver and two bronzes, and Morea Baru snatched a gold medal in the Men's 61Kg.


Meanwhile, on Tuesday, November 21st, the PNG Tennis women's team clinched a bronze medal after defeating Tonga 2-0.


Pair Pauline Hyun and Abigail Tere-Apisah brought that medal home, winning both of their singles matches. This brings the team's total number of medals to fourteen.


In addition, Georgia-Leigh Vele won her first Pacific Games medal, clinching a bronze in the Women's 50m breaststroke.


Team PNG has twelve more days until the Pacific Games end on December 2nd, 2023.
