The Papua New Guinea Kickboxing Federation (PNGKBF) staged its International Title Fights between the PNG fighters and a visiting team from Malaysia on Saturday, December 28th, 2024, at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Center in Port Moresby.
Before the international bouts, a couple of local fighters (both men & women) took to the ring to entertain the fans in the curtain-raiser showdown, followed by the international fights featuring 2 World Titles, 1 Intercontinental Title, and 1 International Title.
In the all-PNG affair, Ali Tony beat Thomas Mara (65kg) in a split decision. Opening the International Title bout, Derrel Tey defeated Issac Robert (70kg), Nelson Samson knocked out Chee Jian Kai in the Intercontinental Title (80kg), Tay Yi Heng triumphed over Kaupa Omena in the World Title (60kg), and Low Wei Kang prevailed over Thomas Kagili in the World Title (64kg).
The Malaysian fighters dominated the international bouts and won three fights (2 World Titles & 1 International Title), while PNG’s Nelson Samson was the sole winner of the Intercontinental Title, earning a shot in the world event next year.
PNG Kickboxing Federation President, Stanley Nandex, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the one-day tournament and thanked the World Kickboxing Federation (Oceania) for allowing PNGKBF to host the event. He also acknowledged the sponsors for their support.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Oceania Kickboxing Championship will be held in Port Moresby in May, which will see the World Kickboxing Federation (Oceania) President, Rustam Attai take on PNG’s veteran fighter, Mark Sondo.
