PNG made a late come back to level the scores at one-point apiece (1-1) against the Solomon Islands in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women’s Olympic Qualifier opener on Wednesday, February 7th in Apia, Samoa.

The game started at a slow pace, with both sides trying to find their groove. Through repeated attempts, the Solomon Islands netted the first goal and took a 1-0 lead over PNG at half time.

PNG found their mojo in the second half and scored the equalizer, ending the match in a cliffhanger.

Though PNG failed to live up to the hype and expectations of the fans, they have two more games to redeem themselves.

PNG will play Fiji on Saturday, February 10th and finish their campaign against the American Samoa on Tuesday, February 13th.

The reigning Pacific Champions (PNG) must win the two remaining games, should they wish to play in the finals and secure a spot in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
