PNG Archery Association (PNGAA) participated in the 2023 World Archery Oceania
Championship (WAOC) celebrated at Ashton Oval in Adelaide-South Australia, which saw three
of its members take part from 12-17 April.
The three Papua New Guinean (PNG) archers who participated in the five-day event were
Dikana Ugava, Alson N’Dreland, and Korima Nendepa.
Dikana competed in the open men’s compound bow category along with Alson in the recurve
bow category. Nendepa in the women’s recurve bow category.
The toxophilites Dikana and Nendepa are the experienced archers who represented PNG in
handling and shooting “bow and arrows" in the 2019 Pacific Games celebrated in Samoa.
Bowman N’Dreland made his first appearance on the International Stage at the recent Oceania
Championships.
That was the first international tournament they attended after being absent for three years
because of the Covid 19 pandemic.
In an interview with Sports Scene, Sereugava Ugava—PNGAA President said that the event will
set the platform for archery in their 2023 calendar, including the Pacific Games in the Solomon
Islands.
Meanwhile, Dikana wishes for the sport to become a national sport in PNG because naturally,
we are traditional bowhunters.
