Singapore denied PNG a chance of wining the Nations Cup by three points in the final battle of the Mirxes Nations Cup in Singapore with a 59-56 full-time score. PNG returned home, winning the Silver Medal.
After a week-long battle for the Nations Cup, PNG Pepes have unfortunately lost to the host nation by only three points.
The Pepes opened their campaign with a 52-50 win over Singapore, before beating Canada (52-34) and the Singapore A team (52-40), edging out Sri Lanka then Cook Islands (58-46), bagging 5 straight wins and was first on the ladder.
They went on to play Singapore in the decider, who were in second place and lost to the hosts. Although the Pepes lost, they are now confident and ready for the Pacific Games.
The Pepes team returned home on Sunday, October 29, while the Australian-based players went back to Australia.
PNG Netball stated that this shows there were better things ahead for the Pepes. For now, it is time to rest, regroup and go hard again in the Pacific Games.
