The annual NCD Governor’s Cup was officially launched by Governor Powes Parkop and the organizing committee of the tournament on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium in Port Moresby.

With K360,000 cash prize up for grabs, a total of 80 teams made up of both men's and women’s divisions have registered to participate in the biggest annual off-season tournament, which will run during the festive period and ends before the new year.

The teams are categorized into various pools with four different venues, commencing the first day of the tournament on Wednesday, December 11th, at Hohola Ipi Park, Kone Tigers Oval, Gerehu Sports Oval, and Bomana Oval.

Interestingly, a new soccer tournament was introduced, which will run alongside the rugby league tourney and conclude simultaneously at the end of December. All games for the soccer tournament will be held at the Gerehu Secondary School field.

Tournament Director, Billy Aki is confident of delivering a successful tourney, urging the teams and supporters to behave well during the games. He also thanked Governor Parkop for his continued support in keeping the youths busy through the annual tournament and extended his appreciation to the hardworking executives.

In a high-stakes game, the eighty (80) teams are locked in while setting their sights on walking away with the prize money, including the envied trophy.
