NAC smash NCSL to defend title

The National Airport Corporation (NAC) Jets have outclassed the NASFUND Contributors Savings & Loan Society (NCSL) Poros with a decisive 12-2 margin in the Cup Grand Final of the Port Moresby Corporate Slow Pitch Softball Competition to claim the 2024 Championship on Saturday, July 27th, at Softball Diamonds.

Last season, the NAC Jets met the Exxon-Mobil team in the Cup decider and beat them to snatch the championship. They’ve had an incredible season again in 2024 to clinch their second consecutive title.

Although a total of seven innings were supposed to be played between the two sides, the Jets outmuscled the Poros in the sixth inning, so they were crowned the champions with an outstanding scoreline of 12-2.

Banking on the experiences of two seasoned softballers in Vincent Kamela and Shayne Kauga, with the bulk of last season’s players retaining their spots, and a few additions to the team to bolster the pack, the Jets had been a dominant force in the competition this year.

NAC Jets captain, Elisheba Waram said as the reigning champions of the corporate slow pitch competition, they had to work extra hard to defend their title.

“We are excited to defend the championship for this year. It takes a lot of hard work from the team to defend the title,” captain Waram said.

“One of the main policies of the association is that the success of the game is not about win or lose, but it’s about building relationships with all the players, and I believe that's what we’ve achieved.”

Captain Waram dedicated the championship to their two coaches, including the former stalwarts of the club, and look forward to making a three-peat next season.
