Marorogo Ready to Host Kickboxing Unity Cup Challenge

Linstan Kickboxing Club based in Mount Hagen, Western Highlands Province, in collaboration with PNG Kickboxing Federation, will be hosting a Kickboxing Unity Cup Challenge from December 7th-8th, 2024, at Marorogo Primary School in Erave, Southern Highlands Province.

Outside teams such as Western Highlands, Hela, Enga, Simbu, Eastern Highlands, and hosts SHP will converge at Marorogo on the mentioned date to battle for supremacy. With 30 plus fighters confirming their participation, the fighting divisions range from 50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, and 80kg.

The purpose of hosting the forthcoming kickboxing event is to raise awareness on law-and-order issues by empowering the youths to leave bad habits behind and take part in the tournament to showcase their hidden talents.

Also, other sports like soccer, basketball and rugby league will be hosted concurrently alongside the kickboxing tourney. The Kickboxing Unity Cup will not only focus on kickboxers, but it will give an opportunity to the athletes of other codes to display their skills.

In essence, the event is to make selection for the best athletes from kickboxing, soccer, basketball and rugby league to represent Southern Highlands Province in the PNG Unity Games slated for June, 2025, in Mendi.

President of Linstan Kickboxing Club, Linstan Andy Supeke will be coordinating the two-day Kickboxing Unity Cup. He expressed his thoughts on the upcoming tournament and what sort of impact this sporting event will have on the community.

“The event is known as the Kickboxing Unity Cup Challenge. This is to bring youths together and build friendships among themselves,” Supeke stated.

“The event is to identify the talented fighters and select them for next year’s PNG Games. Not only in kickboxing but basketball, soccer and rugby league athletes will be selected as well.

“Most importantly, we are hosting this event to raise awareness on law-and-order issues affecting our communities, drug and alcohol consumption, and domestic violence.

“Basically, we want to promote a better and healthier lifestyle, so we need the like-minded leaders from Kagua-Erave District to support this event.”

Mr. Supeke also extended his word of appreciation to the PNG Kickboxing Federation and Oceania Kickboxing Federation for their unwavering support and partnership to stage the tournament.

“My very big thank you to PNG Kickboxing Federation President Stanley Nandex, including the President and Secretary of Oceania Kickboxing Federation for giving us the opportunity to run this Kickboxing Unity Cup Challenge in Marorogo,” said Supeke.
