Kumul and Papua New Guinea (PNG) international superstar Lachlan Lam has re-signed with
the Leigh Leopards on a contract that would see him remain with the club until the end of
2025.
Having decided to remain in the Super League for another two years, Lam has put all
speculations and interests from other teams in England and Australia to the side.
This deal was confirmed and reported by Love Rugby League as one of the biggest signings
the Leigh Leopards have ever made. Leopard's rugby head Chris Chester said this signing is a huge deal for Lam, as well as for the club.
“Lachlan signing this two-year deal represents one of the biggest signings our club has
made in a few years.
“There has been a lot of speculation around Lachlan and his future, and we have kept in
constant dialogue with him and his agent," he added.
“I am delighted to get it over the line and it represents a huge statement of intent by the
player and club.”
Lachlan has been one of the best half-backs in the Super League this season. He greatly
contributed to Leigh reaching their first Challenge Cup final since 1971.
Chester acknowledged and complimented Lam’s effort, consistency, and work in accelerating
the Leighs towards the finals.
“Lachlan’s form has been a key reason for the team's success this year. To be able to end
the speculation is a real plus.
“Lachlan made an outstanding debut in the Summer Bash last year and in the second half of
last season played a big part in the team achieving promotion.
“He has benefited from the continuity of the team spine, playing alongside Ben Reynolds or
Joe Mellor at half, Edwin Ipape and John Asiata in the pack. He has also been playing off
some great work by the middles, with Tom Amone and Robbie Mulhern in outstanding
form.
“While all those factors have made Lachlan’s job easier, he has proved a consistent
performer over the past 12 months. He has significant potential to improve his game even
further in an environment where his talent thrives.
I would like to thank Derek Beaumont, owner, for his continued support of the club and
Lachlan’s agent Sam Ayoub for getting this deal done.”
Lam now aims to help the Leopards win their first Challenge Cup after more than 50 years
when they take on Hull KR at Wembley on August 12.
