Komara hold Lae City Dweller scoreless

PRK Komara Gulf FC claimed victory over the Lae City dwellers FC with 2-0 win in their first home game for the 2024 Premier Soccer League at the PNG Football Stadium on Saturday, July 20th, 2024.

The Gulf Komara returned home for round three of the season after playing the first two games at Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae, where they had registered one win and a draw.

The windy afternoon had nothing against Komara’s striker Nigel Dabinyaba, who played a pivotal role in their victory by booting both goals. The Lae City Dwellers put up a strong fight, but unfortunately lost the match.

The match started at a fast pace, with both sides attacking and counter-attacking each other to find the back of the net. First half was a tug of war until half way through and Nigel booted in the first goal for the Komara and that remained until the break.

The second half saw a similar stake of the game, with Komara capitalizing the game with the wind by their side as Nigel scored in his second goal of the afternoon.

Gulf Komara credited their win to the support of midfielders and their solid defence.

Meanwhile, in the first game, the Port Moresby Strikers defeated the Admiralty Island FC with a 2-1 score at the PNG Football Stadium.

The match kicked off with the Strikers asserting their dominance over the Admiralty FC. Strikers opened the first half by kicking in a goal through Terence Sakuk. The Admiralty Islands responded with a goal from Eliza Wesly. The strikers secured a second and final goal of the match through Obert Simon.

The Islands FC came back strong in the second half, proving to be a force to be reckoned with, but The Strikers held their line until full time.

Strikers’ assistant coach Philemon Tamari was pleased with the win, crediting the players for backing themselves to get the 3 crucial points after a draw in round one and a loss in round two.

“Everyone is playing to win and for us, we are happy to win. We came back with a backdrop of a draw in the first round and a loss in the second round. I thought we were being unfortunate, but we made it a mission to win,” Tamari said.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy playing against a quick outfit like the Admiralty FC, but credit to our boys for putting up a fight, which we were able to control the game all the way from the start to the finish.” he concluded.

For round four, PNG Football Stadium will host Port Moresby Strikers FC vs Lae City Dwellers and Hekari United Fc vs FC Morobe Wawens on Saturday 27th July, while Port Moresby Strikers will take on Lae City FC on Sunday 28th.
