The inaugural 2024-2025 KCK Rigo Rice Cup hosted its leg 1 playoffs last week Sunday (January 5th, 2025) and will continue the semi-finals today (January 11th), with the preliminary finals to be staged tomorrow (January 12th).
The two winners of tomorrow’s grand final qualifiers (preliminary finals) will secure their spots in the big dance next weekend, while the losing teams bow out of the race.
The 48-team tournament has been divided into four pools called ‘legs’. Leg 1 consists of North-East teams, while legs 2, 3, and 4 teams comprise North-West, Moresby South, and Motu-Koita.
The leg 2 teams will kick off their pool games today (January 11th), running simultaneously with the leg 1 semi-finals, and leg 3 and 4 teams will start their pool games the following weekend.
KCK Rigo Rice Cup Director/CEO, McSteve Polly, was impressed with the progress of the tournament, despite facing a few hiccups, especially relating to clashes of schedule with the NCD Governor’s Cup.
The three-month off-season competition has picked up its momentum and hopes to complete the finals in February before the 2025 academic year resumes.
