KCK Rigo Rice Cup Commences

The inaugural KCK Rigo Rice Cup kicked off its opening round for the off-season competition on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, at Bava Park in Port Moresby.

Different teams from the four electorates of the National Capital District totaling 48 participants have been pooled into four groups, namely: North-East, North-West, Moresby South, and Motu-Koita.

Getting things underway, the North-East teams (Leg 1) opened the tournament with a fiery start, which saw 14 teams go head-to-head over the weekend (December 7-8).

The other three electorates (Legs 2, 3 & 4) will start their respective games the following weekend and run alongside Leg 1 (North-East).

According to the CEO of Rigo Rice Cup, Mcsteve Polly, he explained that the competition would run for three months, with finals to be held in February 2025.

Polly also revealed that the teams that topped their pools before the finals would receive K10,000 while the runners-up to collect K5,000 and the third-placed teams would get free passes for their U19-U23 boys.

With K200,000 prize money up for grabs, the 48 teams will put their bodies on the line and compete like there’s no tomorrow with no self-preservation and battle for supremacy.
