The Kamuna Men's netball team have successfully secured a spot for the grand final playoff after defeating the City Pharmacy Men's team 16-13 in a major semi-final match of the Private Company Netball Association (PCNA) competition at the Rita Flynn Court on Sunday, February 18, 2024 in Port Moresby.
The PCNA has included the men's division for the first time in the 2024 season and has registered four teams: Kamuna Events, National Parliament, City Pharmacy, and Nambawan Super.
These teams serve as an example of the new and interesting side of netball, showing that men are encouraged to play the sport just like any other sport with gender equality.
"Netball is also a men’s game. At the end of the day, it's a sport. Whichever way you look at it. Basketball – men and women, rugby league – men and women, so we cannot say netball is a women’s sport. It is a sport for everyone," Lahari stated.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of team Kamuna, player Lawrence Lahari stated that it was a fun game but they realised it was a final, so they played more seriously and emerged victorious.
The victory was attributed to the team's effort and game discipline during the match. Lahari also mentioned that the team's background consists of basketball players, which contributed to their success.
"It's pretty much the same rules in both basketball and netball. They complement each other so, it was a good game by the boys," said Lahari.
Lahari also commended City Pharmacy for putting up a strong contest against them.
"They have been playing well throughout the season. We knew it was going to be tough, but because of our game discipline and shooting, we came out on top," Lahari said.
Lahari thanked the boys for their dedication and punctuality in attending the games and for coming this far.
