Tokarara Secondary eyes decider

Following a victory in the Smart Start Niukick School Competition on Saturday, June 1, 2023, at the Murray Barracks Oval, the Tokarara Secondary School under 17 boys have earned themselves a spot in the top 5.

The team is now eying a grand final spot and if they take another win this weekend would qualify them.

Teacher In Charge (TIC) Ms. Sarea Kada, said the event coordinators would advise them during the week of their exact position on the top 5 list.

"We are not sure, but they will inform us during the week whether the boys will play a do-or-die game or have the chance in the semi-finals," explained Ms. Kada.

She acknowledged that the boys had been working very hard in running training on their own and had a consistent performance during the competition. She added that they deserved the achievement of being in the top 5.

Team captain, Moses Nakia, who also plays for the Bomana Cats in the POMAFL competition, shared that they had faced many challenges as students but worked hard and committed to the training.

"The boys have been obedient, and the cooperation was exceptional during training sessions,” captain Nakia said.

Nakia, the Bomana Cats centre-rower, also appreciated Ms. Kada and the Tokarara Secondary School Board for allowing them to come out and enjoy themselves through sports.

"When we come out to play at this level, the boys have learned how to discipline themselves. It's our first time, and the boys are new players. I am happy that we have made it this far,” Nakia expressed.

He also thanked the event coordinators and sponsors for organising the program that gave them the opportunity to participate in.

The Toks Secondary boys will be led again by Nakia and fellow POM AFL competition players, including Joshua Sarufa (West Eagles), Benjamin Inahembi (Lamana Dockers), Michael Kairu (Concept Koboni), Exodus Agelava (Lamana Dockers), and John Waim (Port Powers).

The boys have to prove themselves next weekend, whether or not they advance to the finals.
