The undefeated Hekari United FC have beaten the United Highlands FC with a 2-0 win during round 7 match of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) competition on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
With this strong victory over the United Highlands, the red-hot David Muta-coached side have solidified their standing on the ladder, while setting their sights to clinch back-to-back championship.
The rejuvenated United Highlands were equal to the task, asking questions and putting pressure on Hekari. However, in the second quarter of first half, the competition leaders used their experience and scored two goals through Brazilian imported player in Erick Joe, followed by Joseph Joe, giving Hekari a 2-0 lead over United Highlands at half time.
The Second Half was really a tug-of-war. The Kutubu-sponsored outfit struggled to maintain their momentum as the United Highlands lifted their game in trying to play catch up football. The goals came begging for both sides, but they missed their chances to find the back of the net.
Despite the win, coach David Muta was not really impressed with his boys, who were complacent and could not perform well in the second half.
“Honestly, I’m disappointed with their performance. I think the United Highlands played really well and put us under pressure,” coach Muta said.
“We played too casually and relaxed, and made a lot of mistakes. We did not play good football this afternoon.
“It comes back to me as a coach and of course the players themselves. We will work and improve on that in our next game.”
In the earlier match, the second-placed Gulf Komara FC edged the visiting Lae City FC with a 2-1 victory to consolidate their spot on the ladder.
Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League concluded its round 1 on August 18th and will head for one week break, and resume round 2 on August 31st.
