The high-flying Hekari United FC continued their dominance following their comprehensive 12-0 victory over Allies FC in the Southern Region Women's Conference Soccer League (WCSL) round 4 clash this afternoon (December 18) at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
Hekari sit first on the standings comfortably with 4 straight wins, while Allies close in on the second spot with 3 wins and 1 loss. The top-of-the-table clash didn't live up to its billing as the women in red went firing on cylinders and blew the Allies off the park in the wet conditions.
A clinical start by the table–toppers put them on the front, thanks to skipper Marie Kaipu's hat-trick and Michaelyn Butubu’s goal, leaving the half-time score at 4-0.
The red-army girls took things under control and tightened their grip in the second spell, scoring 8 additional unanswered goals to thrash the disjointed Allies with a convincing 12-0 triumph.
Coach Erickson Komeng praised the formidable MRDC-sponsored outfit for maintaining their consistency, but urged other clubs to lift their standards and be on par with Hekari.
“It was a dominant win for the girls today. We are sending a message to all the clubs to lift their standards and see where we are,” coach Komeng stated.
“We’ve trained for a very long time, so our preparation has been good. We wanted to set the standard in the country, and all the clubs can try to go to that level, helping to set the standard for football in PNG.
“Whichever club reaches the standard, that’s when we can lift the level of football and hopefully one club can go represent PNG at the Oceania Football Championship (OFC) next year.”
The undefeated Hekari United FC will face the newcomers, Tarangau FC, in round 5 of the WCSL this Saturday (December 21) as they look to continue their winning streak.
