The invincible Hekari United FC maintained their perfect winning streak following their dominant 9-0 win over the dejected PRK Mungkas FC during the round 8 match of the Women’s Conference Soccer League (Southern Region) on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
Since the WCSL competition commenced seven weeks ago, the red-hot Hekari girls have yet to taste a defeat, amassing over 100 goals without conceding any single goal against their opponents, as the regular season nears on to the playoffs.
The determined Mungkas rose to the challenge and asked questions about Hekari's impregnable defense in the opening encounter. However, the high-flying red-army girls mounted relentless pressure on the Mungkas and found the back of the net three times, leaving the halftime score at 3-0.
With the momentum on their backs, the unbeaten table toppers (Hekari) upped their tempo in the second half and netted 6 unanswered goals, taking a comfortable 9-0 win to push their case for back-to-back championship glory.
Coach Erickson Komeng was pleased with his girls’ dominant win, but credited Mungkas for competing until the full-time hooter sounded.
"I give credit to the Mungkas. They gave us (Hekari) a good game and it's always good playing against a quality team. We know some of our weaknesses as well," Komeng said.
He admitted that there was still room for improvement, given the strike weapons the reigning champions have all across the board. This strong win further solidifies their hunger for another title.
In the opening match of the round 8 triple-header fixtures, the Allies FC mercilessly blew the Tarangau FC off the park with a commanding 15-0 win, while the KSS POM Souths cruised past the Bernice FC with a 6-0 victory during the second match.
