Harlequins trounce Juggernauts

Updated: Aug 6

Following their second loss of the season against the resurgent Valley Hunters in round 13 of the Pepsi Moni Plus Capital Rugby Union competition, the Credit Corporation Harlequins regrouped and bounced back into the winner’s circle last weekend, defeating the Moni Plus Nova and backed it up on Sunday, August 4th, at Bava Park, thrashing the Chemcare Juggernauts with a 36-5 scoreline.

After ten consecutive wins on the trot to start their 2024 CRU campaign, the Kramer Ausenco Brothers and SWG Enterprise Valley Hunters humbled the red-hot Harlequins and gave them a reality check in rounds 11 and 13, respectively. However, the Harlies found their mojo again in rounds 14 and 15, posting two crucial wins to reclaim their spot on the table.

In the opening minutes, the inconsistent Juggernauts were equal to the task, but they could not contain the Harlequins’ onslaught, giving space for the ruthless Billy Rapilla-coached side to score three well-executed tries, while the Juggernauts scored a solo 5-pointer, leaving the half time scores at 17-5.

The jesters of Bava Park maintained their ascendancy in the second half and took things under control, dominating the ruck and orchestrating excellent set pieces to blow the Juggernauts off the park with a decisive 36-5 victory.

Harlequins’ assistant coach, Robert Doko, said despite the dominant win over the Juggernauts, he admitted they had more work to be done.

“I’m happy with the win, but we still have a lot of work to do. We need to control the ball and be dominant around the ruck area. Credit to the boys, they played right to the end and finished the game strongly,” assistant coach Doko said.

The Credit Corporation Harlequins will meet the Ruswin Crusaders in round 16 of the Pepsi Moni Plus Capital Rugby Union competition on Saturday, July 10th, at Bava Park in Port Moresby.
