The Gulf Isou Development Squad consisting the Under 20 and Senior Men’s teams have survived the sudden death elimination finals in the Moresby South Rugby Football League (MSRFL) competition on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, at Moresby South Stadium.
Both sides performed really well and won their respective matches to book their spots in the preliminary final on Sunday, October 20th. The U20 and senior teams made their presence known and put the competition on notice.
The U20 side will meet the winner of 2 City Rabbits and 2 Mile Pearls, while the senior men’s will face the winner of Vabukori and Kaugere Bulldogs next week Sunday.
Rookie coach for both the U20 and senior men’s teams, Mark Kumbi Jnr said although the Gulf Isou club fielded the two teams for the first time to participate in the MSRFL competition this year, he was pleased with the progress of the teams.
“This is the first year for the Gulf Isou franchise to put a team into the MSRFL competition. As for me, this is my first year to coach these young boys and I think they are very competitive and strong teams,” Kumbi observed.
Kumbi noted that the two sides had what it takes to shake up the competition and give other teams a run for their money, as they prepare for the preliminary final showdown next weekend.
“Our preparations leading up to the preliminary final have been very good. All the boys come together to work as a team, and the training atmosphere has been high in the last two weeks. The boys are hungrier and take every training session with a positive attitude,” Kumbi said.
Coach Kumbi believes that at least 65-70 percent of the U20 and senior men’s teams will make it into the PRK Gulf Isou off-season train-on squad.
The Gulf Isou U20 and senior men’s teams are fresh and ready to stake their claim in the preliminary final on Sunday, October 20th, at Moresby South Stadium in Kaugere.
