The Brown Eagles pulled off a 11-9 win over the Bears during the 2024 Men’s Softball Association B Grade Grand Final on Saturday, August 31st, at Bisini Softball Park in Port Moresby.
The softball diamonds came to life when the two heavyweights locked heads and vie for the championship. The Eagles went as the underdogs but upset the Bears, who were primed to win the title.
With both teams fielding a couple of seasoned softballers, including the amateurs, the players rose to the challenge and left everything on the field, fighting valiantly to stamp their authority.
The Eagles took things under control and imposed their presence by taking the lead in the earlier part of the contest. The Bears tried to make a late comeback but failed to complete the mission, as the relentless Eagles soared to the finish line.
Coach Robert Okole could not be happier of his men’s courageous victory to upset the Bears, thanking the players for their resolve in competing until the final inning.
“The Bears beat us during the regular season and in the semi final, but we came back and defeated them in the grand final. I’m very proud of my boys,” Okole said.
