The Cloudy Bay Football Club has received sponsorship from the brothers of the Sunken Tribe of Enga Province. A set of soccer jerseys and training gear were presented to the club on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
The soccer jerseys were presented to the Under-19 team, along with training gear and soccer boots, while the Division 1 Senior Men's team received workout gear, including soccer boots. All players also received small bags to carry their training materials.
President and founder of the club, Malaburgh Imeha, expressed appreciation and stated that they were happy for the support.
This sponsorship will be a boost for the club as it continues to maintain its consistent performance in the Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) competition.
Only in its third year of existence in the competition since 2022, the Cloudy Bay FC has been making waves in the PMSA community.
Competing in Division 3, the club won the championship in 2022 and backed it up with consecutive Division 2 championships in 2023.
After their championship successes in 2022 and 2023 respectively, the club has been promoted to Division 1 and is now competing in the PMSA 2024 season, aiming to break into the Premier Division next season.
In addition, Imeha mentioned the disaster that killed thousands of people in the Mulitaka District in Enga, stating that the club could not contribute anything significant to the relief for the affected people.
"You will see that all the bags had the Enga flag, and the club is from Abau, Central Province. Purposefully, two of my brothers are from Enga, originating from the Sunken Tribe, and they are the main sponsors for this equipment,” he said.
“Therefore, the club would like to convey our condolences and tribute to the lives lost in the disaster, especially youths and kids who have the potential to play sports in the future."
