The Cloudy Bay FC have been promoted to the 2025 Port Moresby Soccer Association Premier Division following their 1-0 victory over the Murat FC in the Men’s Division 1 Grand Final on October 20th, 2024, at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
Cloudy Bay FC have had an outstanding year, stamping their authority by topping the standings from round 1 until the end of the regular season, and marched to the big dance to claim the prized silverware. They came on a mission and took the competition by storm, ultimately booking their spot in the premier division next year.
“The overall season was good. We started off the 2024 season at number 1 and finished it off by winning the grand final in division 1,” coach and president of the club, Malaburgh Imeha stated.
“For the U19 youth team, we trailed behind second spot and lost in the grand final. Despite some ups and downs in terms of finance, we performed well, so I’m proud of my players.”
Club founders, Malaburgh Imeha and Livingston Thomas registered Cloudy Bay FC to participate in the PMSA competition in 2022. The club quickly made its presence known during the maiden season, claiming 3 consecutive championships from divisions 3-1 (2022-2024) and earning a promotion to the Premier Division in 2025.
Cloudy Bay FC is dominated by talented village boys from the Abau District of Central Province. These gifted village footballers worked so hard to bag 3 straight championships and put the competition on notice. They had the hunger and eagerness to be the best in the business, to which they’ve shown their championship pedigree from the 2022-2024 seasons.
Coach Imeha expressed that he was so excited to see the progress of the club within a short period. Imeha has laid out the blueprint for the club since its inception and pushed the players to work hard to implement the strategy, which has paid off dividends with 3 consecutive championships.
“For me as the owner, president, coach, and sole sponsor of the club, I’m so proud of my achievement. Since I started the club in 2022 at the lower division, which is division 3, I set my target that I will get to play in the premier division in 2025, which I have certainly achieved,” Imeha said.
“I am so proud of my players. Although they are from the village, they have made so much sacrifice for the club by spending almost three years in Port Moresby just to play for the club and achieve our dream together.”
With three straight championships under their belt from divisions 3-1, the Cloudy Bay FC now set their sights on claiming the Port Moresby Soccer Association Premier Division next year and creating history for the club.
“I want to make extraordinary history in the PMSA competition by winning the premier division grand final next year. That’s the ultimate goal and target for me, including the club that I’m leading,” Imeha said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Imeha revealed that he would put a women’s team to compete in the women’s premier division alongside the men’s team in the 2025 PMSA season.
