Brothers thump Nova to claim Guise Cup

The Kramer Ausenco Brothers have smashed the Moni Plus Nova with a 34-13 win to claim the Douglas Guise Cup during the main fixture of Capital Rugby Union’s Premier Grade round 5 clash on Saturday, May 25th, 2024, at Bava Park in Port Moresby.

The Guise Cup is in honor of the late Douglas Guise, who played an instrumental role in the formation of Nova club. Prior to joining the Nova, he had a stint with the Brothers. The KA Brothers and Moni Plus Nova played the inaugural Guise Cup over the weekend to honor the legacy of Douglas Guise.

The KA Brothers started slow in the opening minutes but once they picked up the momentum in the middle of the game, they punished Nova, scoring three tries and Nova bagged a solo try, leaving the half time score at 19-8.

In the second spell, it was a one-way traffic contest as the Brothers used their experience and outmuscled the Nova, scoring three unanswered tries to seal the deal.

After losing to the defending champions, the Harlequins in the season opener, the Brothers regrouped and bounced into the winner’s circle, winning four straight matches.

Brothers’ coach, Joe Kautu, was pleased with his men’s performance and credited them for their strong win, especially the young players who stood up to the challenge and made their presence known.

“We are trying our new boys now. Seventy percent of the team is made up of new players. We are trying to build them now for the middle season and into the finals. It’s good to get a win from these new kids. Hopefully they maintain that spirit next weekend and going forward,” coach Kautu happily stated.
