The Capital Rugby Union Representative Round saw the Boromas smash the Gaigais with a convincing victory of 33-12 margin on Sunday, October 27th, 2024, at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium in Port Moresby.
The Boromas ran rings around the defenceless Gaigais and piled 28 points on them to take a comfortable 28-12 lead over the Frank Genia-coached men.
However, the Gaigais polished up their performance in the second half and conceded a solo try, going down to the ruthless Boromas with a 33-12 full time score.
The Robert Doko-coached Boromas had a very stacked team consisting of experienced and battle-hardened warriors, who were too clinical against the error-riddled Gaigais.
On the contrary, the Frank Genia-coached men also had some quality players who can cause damage on the pitch, but their poor ball handling errors didn’t help their cause to match the might of the Boromas.
Assistant coach Eddie Galele said it was a scrappy performance for both sides, given they were rested for five weeks but there were some flashes of individual brilliance on show.
He was happy with the result and credited the Gaigais for putting up a spirited fight, especially in the second half.
The cream of the crop at CRU will be selected and finalised for the Boroma squad in the coming days to face the Morobe Hammerheads on November 16th.
