The PNG Bodybuilding team had performed exceptionally well, dominating every category and collected 3 golds, 2 silvers and a bronze at the 2023 XVI Pacific Games hosted in Honiara, Solomon Islands. The team returned to Papua New Guinea on Wednesday, 29th November, 2023.

Six bodybuilders had competed in various divisions ranging from Under 65kg, Under 70kg, Under 75kg, Under 80kg, Under 90kg and Over 100kg. They each collected a medal in their respective divisions.

Steve Bomal (U 70kg), Rexford Viyufa (U 75kg) and Douglas Uyassi (Over 100kg) snatched a gold medal each, while Iso Finch (U 65kg) and Dominic Yuanis (U 80kg) bagged two silvers, and Elvis Gero (U 90kg) settled for a bronze.

Coach Alphonse Benny was really impressed with the team for rising to the occasion and making their presence known.

“We had a very good competition in the Solomon Islands. Our performance was good. We won 3 gold medals, 2 silvers and 1 bronze. In fact, we won six medals from every division, so I am really proud of the team,” said Coach Benny .

Mr. Benny also said that they had a short preparation and he did not expect too much from the bodybuilders, but they delivered a strong performance.

“We had a hard time going through the preparations in PNG, but we have managed to go there (Solomon Islands) and gave our best, winning medals for the country”.
