Beu: ‘Work hard is my Motto’

“There is no secret, just work hard” were the words of Olympian and Team PNG Leonie Beu, after she recorded a Personal Best time of 11.63s in the 100m track event to finish third in the Preliminary round and qualify for round 1, where she finished 8th at Stade de France Stadium in Paris during the Olympics Games.

In the preliminary rounds, Beu took to the 100m track where she competed in heat 4, finishing behind Sao Tome and Principe’s Gorete Semedo (11.44s) and Bolivia’s Guadalupe Torrez (11.6s), becoming part of 17 of the 36 athletes from the preliminary to advance into round one.

In round 1, the sprinting sensation competed in heat 5 for a spot in the semi-finals against 71 other athletes.

On the start line, Beu was on the track with some of the world’s top 10 athletes. She ran to finish 8th with a time of 11.73s, despite a false start that caused her a slower reaction time. She did not make the cut to move to the semi-finals.

The 25-year-old from Morobe and Gulf expressed that she was happy with her results while talking to team PNG media.

“I feel so good about the preliminary round. Standing at the start line for round 1, I could feel that the race was going to be fast. Ewa Swoboda was running next to me in lane 2 and she is very fast,” Beu said.

“I have a motto: ‘There is no secret, just hard work’.”
