The CivPac Amesii Basketball Club men’s and women’s teams have claimed the Minor Premiership titles following their wins over the Tribes Coffee Club in the 2024 Port Moresby Elite Basketball (PEB) competition’s final round match on Wednesday evening, October 30th.
Both Amesii 5x5 teams performed to great lengths against the Tribes Coffee teams, with the women’s claiming a 60-59-point difference win, while the men’s team finally broke off the Tribes’ winning streak with a 79-61 margin to snatch the minor premiership titles at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex.
In the other PEB fixtures, the ACL Kings have cemented their spot for finals against the Togoba Coffee following a 98-93 win over the Moni Plus.
Amesii men’s team manager, Den David said it was good to stop the Tribes’ winning streak and take revenge on them after their loss to the men in green during the season opener.
“It feels great to finally get a win off from the Tribes after they defeated us in the opening round of the competition,” David said.
“What a journey it has been watching a mixture of young and experienced players come together to play for this club.”
He said despite claiming the minor premierships for both teams, it won’t stop them from continuing to work on their game plans ahead of the first finals week next Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We have more work to do during training, because we know next week’s major semifinals will be tough given our performance this week,” David added.
In the contest for the minor premiership title, the Amesii women’s and PNG basketball veterans, Betty Angula, Betty Wong and Marca Muri were on top of their game leading the team in the four-quarter match to claim the title.
While the Amesii men saw Augustine Kaupa claim the Most Valuable Player (MVP) following his outstanding performance on the court alongside Moses Lune, Enoch Raka and Emmanuel Mainu, to name a few.
Meanwhile, the first week of finals is now set with Amesii taking on the Tribes men and women to secure their spots in the grand final.
The losing teams will have a chance each to play the winner of ACL Kings and Togoba Coffee (men) and Saints and Northwest Wizards (women).
