The SP PNG Hunters registered their first win of the 2025 QRL Hostplus Cup season following a 40-6 drubbing against the Brisbane Tigers on Sunday (March 30th) at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
With one victory and a loss, the Hunters are aiming to make it two consecutive wins when they travel to Gold Coast to face the Tweed Seagulls tomorrow (April 5th) at Cbus Super Stadium.
After getting thumped by the Falcons in round 2 in Sunshine Coast, the Hunters regrouped and tamed the Tigers at home with a commanding victory, giving the SP Brewery-backed side a much-needed momentum for their upcoming match against the Seagulls.
Despite losing the crafty utility player Finley Glare to injury following the Hunters’ commanding win against the Tigers on the weekend, coach Paul Aiton has confidence and faith in Trevor Solu to fill the void.
“Trevor will do the job for us. He was unlucky last weekend to sit on the bench. It’s unfortunate for Finley, but it gives Trevor a go. It was an easy decision for us to pick Trevor,” Aiton said.
The round 4 squad remains unchanged, except Finley Glare and Elijah Roltinga, who were ruled out due to injury, with Trevor Solu and Clent Lama replacing the injured duo and Koso Bandi pushing Manisa Kai out of the team.
Coach Aiton heaped praise on his men for their impressive win over the Tigers last weekend and hoped that the players would deliver a similar performance against the Seagulls tomorrow in Gold Coast.
