It was a proud moment for the Papua New Guinea AFL fraternity as Hewago Paul Oea, also known as ‘Ace’ made history at Ikon Park, when he and his team, Gold Coast Suns, won their first premiership.

They played against the experienced Werribee during the 2023 Smithy’s Grand Final on Sunday, September 24, in Australia. The Suns won 17.10 (112) to 19.9 (93).

It was a historical moment for them and mostly for Ace because he is the first Papua New Guinean to be playing professional AFL.

Also, he is PNG AFL’s homegrown player as well as the ambassador of the Niukick Program. He is a historical success story of PNG AFL to have gone on to play professionally.

Meanwhile, the talent program that PNG AFL runs is credited to AFL PNG's hardworking staff and people who performed their roles behind the scenes with their support sponsors such as Paradise Foods Limited.
